California Native Biofiltration Grass Information
California Native Biofiltration sod is a mixture of Molate Fescue, Meadow Barley, California Barley, and Purple Needlegrass. This fine mix gives it a diverse texture of coarse and fine-bladed grasses. There are many reasons this selection is highly unique. One reason it is a unique native state grass is that it is a wetland and dryland species combination. Also, unlike most grasses, our Native Alternative Biofiltration can tolerate a limited amount of standing water. It is also recommended for erosion control, as it does an excellent job stabilizing the soil beneath. Though it is versatile and can be used in many applications, it is most often used for project areas to be non-maintained and non-irrigated. It is also uniquely characterized by its ability to trap sediment and recharge groundwater.
More common positive traits of our Native Alternative Biofiltration are that it is drought tolerant, withstands more extreme full sunny conditions and is low maintenance. Its drought tolerance will save you both time and money spent on irrigation. Similarly, its ability to grow tall makes it require less mowing and in turn adds to its low maintenance nature.
